Following procedures are handled.
(1)Procedures for Examinations for Residence Permits
Following applications are handled.
-"Permissions for Extending Period of Stay"
(In case a foreign national who resides in Japan wishes to stay longer than the permitted period to stay)
-"Permisson for Change of Status of Residence"
(In case a foreign national who resides in Japan wishes to change the activity that is the purpose of his residence)
-"Permisson for Permanent Residence" etc.
(In case a foreign national wish to acquire permanent residence)
Mid to long-term residents will be issued with a residence card when granted permission for extension of the period of stay, permission for a change of resident status, etc.
(2)Permission to Engage in an Activity Other Than That Permitted by the Status of Residence Previously Granted
Please apply for "Permission to Engage in an Activity Other Than That Permitted by the Status of Residence Previously Granted" if a foreign national wishes to work other than that permitted by the Status of Residence. (part time job)
Re-entry permission is permission which is granted prior to departure by the Minister of Justice in order to simplify the immigration (entry and landing) procedures in cases where foreign nationals residing in Japan temporarily depart from Japan and intend to re-enter Japan.
Foreign nationals in possession of valid passports and resident cards who will be re-entering Japan within 1 year of their departure (If your period of stay expires within 1 year after your departure, please ensure that you re-enter Japan before the expiration of your period of stay.) to continue their activities in Japan will, in principle, not be required to apply for re-entry permits.
They are eligible for a Special Re-entry Permit.
Foreign nationals who have departed from Japan on special re-entry permits will not be able to extend those permits while staying abroad.
Please note that such foreign nationals will lose their resident status if they fail to re-enter Japan within 1 year of their departure. (If your period of stay expires within 1 year after your departure, please ensure that you re-enter Japan before the expiration of your period of stay.)
Foreign nationals falling under any of the following category, however, are not eligible for a Special Re-entry Permit.
-A foreign national whose status of residence is under procedures for revocation;
-A foreign national for whom confirmation of departure is being deferred;
-A foreign national for whom a written detention order has been issued; etc
(4) Procedures concerning the residency management system
A mid- to long term resident, whose status of residence is based on his/her social relationship, such as employment relationship or marital relationship, must notify the details of any change in such social relationship to the Minister of Justice within 14 days.
※ A person who gets divorced from a Japanese national and quits a job or gets a new job must file to applications for extension of the validation period of the residence card.
Please apply for extension of the validation period of the residence card.
(5)Application for extension of the validation period of the residence card
A foreign national whose resident card's expiration date of the residence card and the expiration date of the period of stay are the same, should apply for extension of the validaation period.
If permission for extension is granted, a new resident card will be issued.
A foreign resident younger than 16 years old whose resident card's validity expires on his/her 16th birthday is advised to apply to file such an application within six months in advance of his/her 16th birthday.
A permanent resident can file an application for renewal of the validity period of his/her resident card within two months in advance of the expiration date.
(6) Application for Reissuance of a Residence Card
In case your resident card is lost, stolen, severely damaged or defaced, please apply for reissuannce.
In case your resident card is lost or stolen, please apply for reissuance within 14 days of the day when you noticed this (or the day when you re-enter Japan in case you noticed it outside Japan).
To apply for reissue, please bring with you a report of loss or a theft report certificate or a disaster victim certificate.
In case your resident card is severely damaged or defaced, be sure to apply for reissuance as soon as possible.
