When a foreign national marries a Japanese in Japan, the following documents are required to register the marriage at the City Hall.
*Required Documents
1) Notice of Marriage
2) Certificate on Registered Matters or Certificate of Nationality (passport will do)
3) Proof of eligibility to marry and/or marital status and Certificate of Birth issued by the foreigner’s embassy or consulate. (A written oath is substituted on a case by case basis.) These documents must be translated into Japanese.
Translation service is available at the Toyama City International Exchange Center Office. (The signature and seal of the translator is required. There is a fee.)
