(1) NEW REGISTRATION
1) When arriving in Japan
Applicant: must appear in person
(If an applicant is younger than 16 years old, a family member living together should go.)
Application Period: Within 90 days following the date of your landing. If you leave Japan within 90 days, you do not have to apply.
Required Documents:
① your passport
② 2 photographs
(Not required for those under 16 years of age)
-Photographs must be taken within six months of the application date
-4.5cm high x 3.5cm wide
-Subject should be facing the camera and should not be wearing a hat
2) When a child is born
Applicant: a family member living with the baby
Application Period: Within 60 days following the date of birth.
Required Documents:Birth
*Birth notice should be submitted to City Hall within 14 days. Parents of foreign nationalities are reminded to complete the appropriate procedures at their country’s embassy or consulate.
(2) CONFIRMATION (RENEWAL)
1) Age 16 and up
Applicant: must appear in person
Application Period: Within 30 days following the fifth birthday (the seventh birthday for a permanent resident or a special permanent resident) that you have after your original registration, such as New Registration, Renewal and Exchange issuance, or Reissuing of card.
“Next Renewal Application Period” is written on your Alien Registration card (here in after referred to as “Registration card”).
Required Documents:
① your passport
② 2 photographs(4.5cm high×3.5cm wide)
③ your Registration card
2) When you become 16 years old
Applicant: must appear in person
Application Period: within 30 days following your 16th birthday
Required Documents: same as stated above
3) If your applied Period of Stay is less than one year
Applicant: must appear in person
Application Period: within 30 days from the designated day on your Registration card.
Required Documents: same as stated above
(3) REISSUANCE OF REGISTRATION CERTIFICATE
If you lose your Registration card (through loss or theft), you must apply for a new card.
Applicant: must appear in person
(If an applicant is younger than 16 years old, a family member living together should go.)
Application Period: within 14 days after you realize the loss.
Required Documents: same as stated above (no photo is required for those under 16 years of age)
(4) EXCHANGE ISSUANCE OF REGISTRATION CERTIFICATE
If your Registration card gets very dirty or torn, you should apply for a new card.
Applicant: must appear in person
(If an applicant is younger than 16 years old, a family member living together should go.)
Required Documents: same as stated above (no photo is required for those under 16 years of age)
(5) REGISTRATION OF CHANGE OF PLACE OF RESIDENCE
Applicant: Person applying for change of address should be the applicant or a family member
1) Move into Toyama City
(Application for change of registered information)
Please report to the local office.
Application Period: within 14 days of moving
Required Documents: your Registration card
2) Moving within the city
(Application for change of registered information)
Please report to the local office.
Application Period: within 14 days of moving
Required Documents: your Registration card
3) Moving out of the city
When you move out of the city, please register the change at the Foreign Resident Registration Information counter of local office you move to.
Application Period: within 14 days of moving

(6) CHANGES IN REGISTERED INFORMATION
If you change any items written on your card other than your address, please complete the appropriate procedure at the embassy and/or Immigration office, and then register at City Hall or each General Administration Center.
Applicant: must appear in person (a family member living with the applicant is allowed to apply in place of the applicant for changes in status of residence and period of stay, and so on.)
Application Period: If you are changing your name, nationality, status of residence, period of stay, occupation, or work address, please register within 14 days of change. (A permanent resident or a special permanent resident does not have to report on changes of occupation, or work address.) Other items should be reported when you apply to Renew, Exchange, or Reissue your registration card.

(7) APPLICATION FOR ISSUANCE OF CERTIFICATE ON REGISTERED MATTERS
Your city mayor will issue a certificate when you need to confirm registered information, such as status of stay, place of residence and other information.
Applicant: The applicant, a family member living with the applicant, or a representative who has a letter granting power of attorney from the applicant
Handling charge: 300 YEN per document
(8) RETURNING THE CARD
Please return your card in the following cases.
1) When leaving Japan,please return your card to the immigration officer at the airport or port.
2) When a family member dies,please return his/her card to Foreign Resident Registration Information counter of the City Hall or each General Adminitration Centev within 14 days of the death.
3) If you become a Japanese citizen,please return your card to Foreign Resident Registration Information counter in person with your Certificate of Japanese Citizenship or an identification acquired after change of citizenship within 14 days of the change.
